Counselor AI Recognition of Emotion
CARE AI (Counselor AI Recognition of Emotion) is a school wellbeing support system that combines secure student access, camera-based facial‑expression analysis, remote counselling sessions, and guided counsellor response suggestions.
Its purpose is to make it easier for students to show how they may be feeling, and to help counsellors begin supportive conversations earlier, using emotion cues as an extra signal while keeping human judgement at the centre.
Why CARE AI?
Students may not always know how to explain what they are feeling. Some may feel uncomfortable speaking immediately, while counsellors may need time to understand a student’s emotional state before beginning a conversation.
CARE AI was created as an assistive school wellbeing tool. It provides additional emotional cues based on visible facial expressions and combines them with direct student–counsellor communication.
The goal is not to replace counsellors. The goal is to give counsellors another source of information that may help them ask better questions, respond more appropriately, and support students more effectively.

How CARE AI Is Built
Wix
The public-facing CARE AI website used for project information, explanation, navigation, and public presentation.
Netlify
Hosts the interactive CARE AI web application: login, student camera, counsellor dashboard, remote session interface, and student management.
Supabase
Provides the secure backend: authentication, user roles, student profiles, emotion sessions, remote sessions, emotion events, WebRTC signalling, and session history.
WebRTC
Used for direct peer-to-peer live video between student and counsellor devices in remote live video mode.
How CARE AI Works

Counsellor Logs In
The counsellor signs into the CARE AI dashboard using an authorised counsellor account.

Student Accounts Are Managed
The counsellor can create student accounts, assign name, ID, classroom, username, and temporary passwords. They can view students by classroom, search accounts, and reset passwords as needed. Students use school-managed usernames and do not need personal email addresses, ensuring privacy and safety.

Counsellor Chooses Camera Mode
The counsellor picks the interaction method best suited for the student's needs and context:
Remote Live Video
student joins from another device; counsellor receives live peer-to-peer video and emotion updates.
Remote Emotion Only
student joins remotely; counsellor receives emotion labels and confidence values without live video.
Local Camera
camera used directly on the counsellor’s device or same local device.
